We are delighted to welcome Santiago Rojo to CAST for a month-long residency, starting on Tuesday 6 June and running until Friday 7 July. Rojo works in painting, photography and installation. Through field exploration and landscape observation, he highlights changes in the economic, social and political processes of a place.

Rojo’s work has been exhibited across Mexico and internationally. He is currently part of Obras Selectas de Antequera, a collective dedicated to the reflection and exhibition of contemporary art in the city of Oaxaca, and the collective Turista Mundial Colectivo, whose works reflect on how global economic systems disrupt local environments.

In 2020 generous support from Art Fund allowed us to develop CAST’s first venture in hosting international residencies, an exchange partnership between CAST in Helston and the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín Etla (CaSa) in Oaxaca, Mexico. CAST studio artist Nicola Bealing initiated the exchange, with a residency at CaSa just before the beginning of the pandemic. Her report on the experience can be read here. Santiago Rojo’s residency at CAST is also supported by Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales (SACPC) from the Secretaría de Cultura, Mexico.
