Artist Simon Bayliss is leading a Landscape Painters Anonymous field trip to Trencrom Hill from St Ives. The trip offers an opportunity to indulge in the leisurely pursuit of observational painting within a dramatic West Cornwall landscape. Painting and drawing experience is not necessary.
The group will walk from Trenwith car park to Steeple Woods and stop to paint under the beech trees. From there (weather permitting) the group will pick up St Michael’s Way, an ancient pilgrimage route, passing Bowl Rock and continuing to Trencrom Hill. The fort and granite outcrops at the top of the hill offer an ideal place to paint with panoramic views over both coasts, north over Hayle Estuary and south towards St Michael’s Mount.
The walk is approximately nine miles and the terrain is varied, so participants should wear suitable clothes and footwear. Participants should bring drawing or painting materials if possible (although boxes of paints and paper can be lent for a small donation) and something waterproof to sit on. A £5 lunch will be provided at Trencrom Hill.

In the event of extremely poor weather, the field trip will be postponed until the following Sunday 17 September.
This field trip is organised as part of Groundwork, a three-year project bringing outstanding art and artists to Cornwall, supported by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence scheme. Field trips, workshops and events during 2016 and 2017 are building towards a high-profile programme of commissions and sited work in 2018.
