A stranger arrives in a small English village claiming knowledge of aboriginal magic and the power to kill with his voice.

Directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, The Shout (1978) is a sharply observed portrait of the chaos and destruction that unfolds. The film uses sound and composition to produce an eerie encounter with the North Devon landscape, both for the characters on screen and for the audience in the darkened cinema space. Alan Bates stars as the stranger, with John Hurt and Susannah York as the couple who take him into their home.

The film will be introduced by artist and Falmouth University lecturer Bronwen Buckeridge, whose work spans sound, text and live performance.
