ARTIST’S CHOICE | BONFIRE | INTRODUCED BY KATE DE PURY AND IVAN KOCHKAREV

CANCELLED – Bonfire, Dmitrii Davydov’s debut feature, follows the life of a Yakut elder.

Dmitrii Davydov was born in the far north of the Russian Arctic. He became a teacher and set up a youth group whose experiments with video sparked his own interest in filmmaking. Bonfire was made with a cast of local people from his Yakut village. It follows the life of a Yakut elder, living alone in this decaying Soviet-era village, as his unlikely friendship with a truanting teenager helps both overcome their own personal hardships. Set in the depths of a Siberian winter, the film is an unsentimental look at life in Russia today, in one of its remotest, toughest and most beautiful regions.

The film will be introduced by Falmouth University lecturer and former Associated Press Moscow Bureau Chief, Kate de Pury, and her husband, artist and theatre designer Ivan Kochkarev.

To book please call CAST Café during opening hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm) on 01326 569267 or email [email protected] and a member of the Café team will be in touch.

The screening space will be laid out to ensure social distancing between households or bubbles. To maximise the number of people we can accommodate it would be very helpful if you could book as a group. Please let us know as soon as possible if there are any changes to your numbers.
