Wild pigment making, CAST-Off 2021

Brush making, serpentine polishing, flower crowns, wood construction and wild pigment painting.

Visit the walled garden at Penrose and learn how to make your own brush with designer-maker Ellie Birkhead. Put your new handmade brush to the test with natural pigments made from a range of wild materials including roots, bulbs, barks, berries, beans and husks. You’ll also be able to build something with wood and nails, create a flower crown and learn how to shape and polish serpentine stone with Don Taylor.

There’s more to come every Saturday, including sessions on stone carving and felt pouch making.

All the activities are free and offered on a drop-in basis, no booking required. Donations welcome.

We won’t be put off by a bit of drizzle and hope you won’t either, but check on the day in case of extreme weather or last-minute changes.

This summer, for the first time, CAST is also taking its programme of creative adventures out onto the Lizard peninsula. These take place each Wednesday from 3 to 24 August. For more information click here.

CAST-Off and CAST-Away are made possible by the generous support of The National Lottery Community Fund, FEAST, the Garcia Family Foundation and Helston Town Council.
