During the autumn and winter of 2020 and into the first months of 2021, Adam Jackson and Jason Tripconey have been working on the exterior of the CAST building in Helston.
The oldest part of the building, originally a detached, two-storey, double-fronted structure, was erected in 1897 as a Science and Art School, with funds provided by the eminent Cornish philanthropist John Passmore Edwards (1823 –1911), whose legacy is visible in almost every Cornish town and in many landmark buildings in London as well. All the roofs in this first section of the building have now been renewed and in February 2021 Jason and Adam reinstated the fine triple-crested ridge tiles that are such a distinctive feature of its profile. The rear of the building has been lime pointed and the windows renovated and painted in the warm grey we call ‘Edwards Grey’.
