Production still from 'Exquisite Cacophony', 2015, Sonia Boyce, courtesy the artist

Sonia Boyce (MBE, RA) is an artist and professor of art based in London. She works across text, print, sound, photography, video and improvised performance and has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally.

For you, only you (2007) explores the boundary between classical music and sound art, orchestrating an unlikely meeting between an Early Music consort, Alamire, and a contemporary sound artist, Mikhail Karikis. Oh Adelaide (2010), a collaborative work with sound artist Ain Bailey, incorporates found film footage of the jazz singer and entertainer Adelaide Hall and manipulates and re-imagines this in order to address important questions relating to the representation and perception of the female black body. Exquisite Cacophony (2015) is a freeform vocal improvisation between Minneapolis-based ‘indie rapper’ Astronautalis and Elaine Mitchener, a classically trained vocalist.

Sonia will introduce the films and take part in a Q&A after the screening with programme curator Kelly Taylor.
