Christina Mackie is best known for her composite sculptural installations, which unite disparate elements in a state of temporary synthesis. Born in 1956 in England and raised in Canada before relocating to London in the 1980s, Christina Mackie has exhibited extensively, with recent solo exhibitions including The Duveen Galleries, Tate Britain, (2015), Praxes, Berlin (2015), The Renaissance Society, Chicago (2014), Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2012) and Chisenhale Gallery, London (2012).
The programme for The Cornwall Workshop 2017 will be shaped by Christina’s interest in materials and processes, and in observing and activating the subtle chains of association through which things relate to one another – intuitively or formally.
Working in partnership with CAST and the Groundwork project, Falmouth University will host an artist talk by Christina Mackie in the School of Art’s Guest Speakers series. Lectures are open to students and the public. Admission is free but booking is required via the Eventbrite page.
Groundwork is a three-year project bringing outstanding art and artists to Cornwall, supported by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence scheme. Field trips, workshops and events during 2016 and 2017 are building towards a high-profile programme of commissions and sited work in 2018.
