'Six Tuesdays After Film as a Critical Practice: Reformzirkus', Alexander Kluge, an interactive screening, 2009

A new Cornwall-based artists’ moving image Critical Forum will be launched on Monday 13 February 6 – 9pm. CAST invites artists, writers and curators who currently work with moving image, or are interested to do so, to join.

The Forum will meet at CAST in Helston and will be developed in partnership with LUX Artists’ Moving Image Agency. It will be a monthly discussion group in which artists, writers and curators meet to talk about ideas and practice in a mutually supportive environment.

LUX Critical Forum at CAST will be an open group, but members will be asked to commit to attending for an initial period of six months, with a view to working together over a year. Benjamin Cook, director of LUX, will come to CAST to introduce the idea of the Critical Forum and to talk about similar LUX-supported groups in London, Glasgow, Dublin, Dundee and Bristol. As part of this preliminary meeting, there will be a screening of Margaret Tait Award-winning artist Duncan Marquiss’s Evolutionary Jerks and Gradualist Creeps, which explores the interplay between evolutionary theory and culture.

Please email [email protected] to attend the preliminary meeting or make enquiries. Subsequent meetings will be at CAST, 3 Penrose Road, Helston, from 6 – 9pm on the first Monday of the month, starting Monday 6 March 2017.
