In July CAST hosted a memory day for former pupils and teachers of the ‘Green School’.

Since 2014 CAST has been tracing the history of the building where it is housed through a project entitled Green School Revisited. Formerly a school, in the last phase of its life, it was known as the ‘Green School’ because of the green and grey uniforms worn by its pupils.  This year, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Sharing Heritage scheme, CAST began a collaboration with the oral history company Azook, an organisation based in Redruth that works to connect people to their cultural heritage.

At this gathering in July Azook commissioned broadcaster David George to conduct oral history interviews with former pupils and staff while they made scans of photographs, school reports and other documents connected with school life. These audio interviews and images will form part of a Helston County Secondary School collection for the online archive cornishmemory.com.
